Sajek Rights Forum Accused of Spreading Disinformation Against Army, Inciting Unrest

The Sajek Gana Adhikar Forum is facing allegations of spreading disinformation and attempting to involve the Bangladesh Army in controversy to conceal its organisational weaknesses and failures.

The allegations claim that the organisation has resorted to misinformation to divert public attention from its internal organisational shortcomings and political difficulties. It is also accused of circulating unsubstantiated and fabricated information to gain public sympathy and attention.

According to the allegations, the forum is attempting to shift responsibility for its own failures onto the Bangladesh Army, a disciplined force that has been working to maintain peace and stability in the hills. The allegations further claim that the organisation is seeking to damage the army’s reputation to conceal its own alleged misconduct and shortcomings.

The forum has also been accused of vandalising and damaging its own shops at Sajek Ujo Bazar and subsequently attempting to hold law enforcement agencies responsible. The allegations suggest that such provocative actions are intended to create confrontation between local residents and the army, potentially leading to an escalation of tensions.

The claims further warn of attempts to spread fabricated and provocative information that could fuel renewed unrest and communal violence in the Sajek region of the Chittagong Hill Tracts.

The statement calls on local residents to remain alert and united against any attempts to exploit local people and business owners for personal or political gain, and to help preserve peace and communal harmony in the area.

When contacted by phone for comment on the allegations, Bijoy Kanti Chakma, member-secretary of the Sajek Gana Adhikar Rakkha Committee, disconnected the call after hearing the question.
